68 Vintage 1980
A superb vintage if somewhat drier than usual. A hugely underrated year with backbone, freshness and plenty of fruit. Among the finest Vintage Ports of the post war era.
69 Vintage 1977
A very good vinatage, deep healthy crimson wine, strong and intense.
70 Vintage 1963
Classic vintage for a very special occasion. Favourable weather during the year resulted in good grapes and relatively high yields. Harvest started on 27th September and the wines produced had good colour, nice aromas and nice balance, giving rise to speculation that this might be the best Vintage since 1945. Sandeman was one of the deeper coloured ’63s: and has evolved into a firm tawny hued wine with a good nose, complex layers of cocoa and spice with excellent balance and a velvety mouthful. Probably the best post war Sandeman
71 Vintage 1955
A perennial favourite from this outstanding vintage, dark in colour, great depth, fleshiness and complexity with a wealth of stunning aromatics, sweet harmony. Residual sugar 2.9º. Original price £150 per pipe. Heavy rains during the winter were followed by a normally hot summer. Harvest started 19th September with sound grapes and higher than average sugar content. The wines had good colour and quality, with certain areas producing outstanding wines.
72 Coteaux du Layon St Aubin. Domaine Delesvaux. Loire.
Recently been granted organic status for his biodynamically managed wines. Golden in colour and an aroma of apricots with exotic spices and a very long finish. A lovely sweet white wine.
73 Chateau Rolland Barsac Sauternes
A sweet white wine as a result of the grapes being left to wither and rot on the vine. A perfect complement to Foie Gras, Asparagus, Fish and try it with Stilton Cheese as well as puddings such as apple and fig tart, fruit sorbets or even as an aperitif.
74 Royal Tokaji Aszu 5 Puttonyos 25cl Bottle 2000 (Hungary)
Furmint, Harslevelu and Muskotaly grapes are used to make Tokaji in the traditional manner. The result of blending wines from the Royal Tokaji Estates is a wine with a lovely amber colour, marmalade and quince flavours backed by splendidly fresh acidity.
75 Chateau D'Yquem "Alexandre de Lur-Saluce" 1er Cru (Sauternes) 1986
Often described as the greatest sweet wine in the world and many "Yquem Fanatics" believe this 1986 Vintage to be the best wine ever produced since 1937. Breathtakingly rich, awesome unadultarated luxury. Only 7 bottles left in our cellars.
