Wild Roe Deer are an important and valued part of England’s Natural Heritage but at the same time their numbers need controlling through a management programme so that they don’t have a negative impact on the landscape especially in our young immature plantations of native deciduous trees. They are also delicious to eat, meat which is free range, additive free and low in fat.
Rules at Lartington Hall Park is committed to ensuring a healthy herd, with the right balance between Bucks & Does as a key element in our rich landscape.
There are two stalking seasons: Bucks 1st April – 31th October. Does 1st November – 28th February.
Should you wish to take part in this truly wild and unpredictable experience during an activity weekend at Lartington, we can take you out for a morning or evening outing. Our gamekeeper is fully qualified, will talk you through the species identification and seasons, firearm safety and practice, clothing and equipment, fieldcraft and management. If the conditions allow, a suitable Roe Deer may be shot as part of our managemenet programme by the Gamekeeper.
The cook will be very happy to cook and serve you a delicious piece of Roe Deer which has been previously shot and properly hung on the estate.
