Holiday in our beautiful and luxurious 200 year old Stone Lodge with superb views in the heart of Rules' Private Estate surrounded by the heathery landscape of the best Grouse Moors in the world and the raw edged beauty of the Pennine Hills, England's last Wilderness, not far from Bronte Country and Wuthering Heights, the Yorkshire Dales National Park and the Lake District National Park. 

Down a private tree lined road and over a little bridge eventually you come to "Greys Lodge" our superbly renovated 200 year old stone Lodge. Set in ancient parkland, with grazing animals, 200 year old Cedars of Lebanon trees, beside a stream and a private wood in its own 1000 acre domain this property will delight passionate vacationers of a classic English parkland setting. Excellent gourmet pubs abound and easy access to the market town of Barnard Castle. Two bedrooms on the ground floor  both Twin bedded rooms each have ensuite bathrooms, separate living and dining rooms and a large kitchen/breakfast room with its own conservatory. Upstairs are two more bedrooms one double bedded room and one twin bedded room with a beautiful large modern bathroom. The house is full of antiques, paintings, large comfortable antique beds and TVs in every bedroom. Only an hour's drive from the Lake District and surrounded by the beautiful high pennines. The nearest International Airport is Durham Teesside 25 miles and Darlington Main Line Railway Station to London is 25 miles. By Motorway Lartington is 260 miles from London.

We offer two Holiday Packages:

1. Activity

. Arrive on Friday night at either Teesside Airport or Darlington Train Station and we will be there to drive you to Lartington. A roaring fire, Champagne and a Gourmet Dinner will be prepared. Saturday Morning, accompanied by our Gamekeeper,  you can choose to learn to Fly Fish for Trout or Salmon, stalk a Roe Deer (see Manangement of Wild Deer ) and/or learn to shoot Clay Pigeons. Or you can choose to spend the morning with the Housekeeper doing a cookery demonstration of classic English Puddings and Cakes. Our herd of Belted Galloway Cattle can be included as a visit, high up on the moors, with a fascinating talk by Paul Coppen, see his story on our web site. In the afternoon we can drive you into Barnard Castle a medieval market town, 2 miles away, full of antique shops and a 5 star museum. A visit to a country pub and then back for another Gourmet dinner. Sunday morning more of the same, or do nothing other than a scenic walk and back for a traditional sunday lunch. In the afternoon you are then driven to catch your train and/or plane home. The cost for this package is £1,550 per bedroom plus VAT. There is a minimum charge of 2 bedrooms and terms and conditions apply.

2. Self Catering Holiday

Greys Lodge is available for rent for £1,750 per week plus VAT for a maximum of 8 guests. There is a minimum charge of one week's rental. The staff  will provide a daily  top up of firewood and collection of refuse. Terms and conditions apply. The following activities need to be booked and paid for in advance.

Shooting Tuition. One morning, approximately 3 hours,  to the shooting school which is a 20 minute drive over towards the Grouse Moors, for one hour's shooting over clays including instruction and a safety briefing for up to a maximum of 8  people (2 people shooting at any one time). For one hour at the school, the cost is £250 plus vat. .

Fishing. We have fly fishing for brown trout, sea trout and/or salmon for 2 rods on the river and coarse fishing for 2 rods on our still waters available depending on the time of year. A week's fly fishing for 2 rods on the river costs £250 plus vat. A week's coarse fishing for 2 rods on our stillwater costs £150 plus vat. You will need to bring your own fishing equipment and buy a fishing permit from the local post office. Philip the gamekeeper is very experienced and can answer all your questions on fishing at Lartington.
